Even though we just learned about Ford's Maverick pickup, its CEO is talking to the New York Times about the company's other new electrified pickup. Apparently the F-150 Lightning pre-order count has already reached 100,000, just about three weeks after the electric vehicle was officially unveiled for commercial and retail customers.
By comparison, Tesla's Cybertruck netted some 250,000 pre-orders for the electric vehicle in just five days, and GMC's electric Hummer had 10,000 pre-orders for an early edition model sell out in hours. Neither truck is available yet, but according to SEMA's Vehicle Landscape Report, Ford's F-Series sold more than 787,000 trucks last year and had 16.1 million trucks on the road in the US. Which models will...
Have Some Solar Power With Your New EV
Way to bury the lede, Mr. Farley. He was referring to two-way EV charging, in which you can charge up your EV battery and drive it somewhere, or you can park it at your house and use it to keep the lights on when the local grid goes down.
So, why not just buy a generator? With climate-related disasters on the increase, everyone is scrambling to buy generators. According to a tweet Mike Levine posted on May 20th, there is more Lightning information coming out on May 24th. Could this be a special edition? Maybe we'll get a tease on a single cab version as a nod to the original Ford Lightning!
Ford said it will partner with SK Innovation, a Korean supplier that also makes batteries for Volkswagen and Kia, to assemble 60 gigawatts' worth of batteries each year in Commerce, Georgia. That adds up to roughly 400,000 of the Lightning's longest-range packs—a massive undertaking that, in sheer volume, represents nearly half of all F-series sales—and by 2030, Ford wants to quadruple that output from all of its battery plants worldwide. The joint venture is to be called BlueOvalSK, Ford said.
